Its digital business amassed Rs 38.2 crore from Rs 26.7 crore in the same quarter last year. Confident with the current stats, HT now plans to focus on starting new radio stations acquired on Phase-III airwave auctions. » The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has upheld complaints against 38 out of 72 misleading advertisements first reported on October last year. ‘Purple Skies’

DD’s Run to Continue

Pointing out that the license expires on 30th September and not 31st August, he said that options for a public broadcaster having a larger bandwidth are being explored, while assuring that the channel will not go off air. »The blame-game continues as journalists in Chennai representing different clubs and unions are now at the brink of implosion, with dirty linen being washed in public and both groups pointing fingers at each other for being undemocratic. Doordarshan of Progress

MediaWatch-Image25.8With an aim to fast-track development and progress in the North-East region, the MIB is planning to increase the number of Doordarshan channels. The Ministry is considering a trifurcation of the sole 24×7 channel: DD Arunprabha for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim; one for Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland; and a third channel for Assam and Meghalaya to cater to the rich & diverse cultures of the region. » Tapping into unconventional methods of educating children, The Hindu has come up with a special edition in Mumbai – ‘The Hindu in School’. Speaking about the latest volume, Editor, Siddharth Varadarajan said, “The Hindu in School would inform students about what is happening in India, the world, in science and sports, but would also seek to inculcate in them the spirit of civilized debate, of respect for differing points of view.” The school edition is designed for students in classes 8-10 and will be published from Monday to Friday. Priced at Rs. 3 and distributed to over 2,500 schools, the edition will be launched next in Kolkata by August-end.

Broadcasters Warned

MediaWatch-Image29According to an article in The Hindu, The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has issued an advisory against live media broadcasts and coverage of anti-terrorist operations by security forces following the Gurdaspur incident in Punjab. The Ministry said this is a clear violation of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2015, and makes them liable for action. » Despite increased investment and added expertise from consultants, the state-run broadcast channel’s viewership remains poor. According to BARC, DD National is 13th of 15 entertainment channels while DD Sports is 10th of 13 sports channels. DD News is eighth of 14 news channels while DD Bharati is 10th in the list of 11 culture channels.Jawhar Sircar, CEO of Prasar Bharati jumped to defend the broadcaster and stated that the data was skewed as it didn’t cover 40% of the country, leaving out rural areas. “We are not saying that we will be on top after the complete data comes out but it will be a fairer analysis”, he told The Economic Times. » Genesis Burson-Marsteller launches the website for ‘STEP UP’, a new division that specifically services startups and upcoming brands with integrated communication strategies and packages.
